Attorney Rachel Terp is proud to help organize the upcoming, February 24, 2021, seminar presented by the Wage and Hour Committee of the California Employment Lawyers Association, entitled “Unpacking Proposition 22 and Its Impacts.” Description below:

Proposition 22 legalized the exclusion of hundreds of thousands of “app-based” workers from the laws protecting employees in California. It allowed gig-economy companies like Uber, Lyft, and DoorDash to continue classifying workers at the core of their businesses as independent contractors and avoid accountability to the public under Dynamex/AB5.

Join us for this webinar where panelists will unpack Proposition 22 and its impact on workers rights in California.  The panelists will explain the intricacies of Proposition 22, litigation strategies for limiting its scope, and the arguments challenging Proposition 22 currently being made in the courts.

The speakers for the seminar include:

Scott Stillman, an Assistant District Attorney and Labor Liaison at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office who leads the Economic Crimes Against Workers Unit, which investigates and prosecutes legal violations committed by employers against workers.

Rachel Bien, a partner at Olivier Schreiber & Chao LLP, and previously at Outten & Golden LLP, who, in recent years, has worked with a team of lawyers representing hundreds of Lyft and Uber drivers in “mass” arbitrations challenging their independent contractor classification.

Rey Fuentes, a Legal Fellow at the Partnership for Working Families who co-authored the recent report, “Rigging the Gig,” with the National Employment Law Project, which provided a window into the negative effects of Proposition 22 on gig workers in California.

Katharine Chao is a founding partner of Olivier Schreiber & Chao LLP, will moderate the panel.
